Frequently asked questions
StableComfort Australia & New Zealand is a new Australian Distributor of StableComfort that aims to deliver quality horse-stable products, such as horse stall mats and horse stall bedding.
StableComfort is a wall-to-wall waterproof stable mattress system used for horse stables. It gives unmatched comfort to your horse as it feels like natural grass on their feet. It offers a supportive, flat surface for your horse to stand or rest on, and it serves as an aid if the horse is under injury rehabilitation, shortening the healing period.
Below are answers to frequently asked questions regarding horse stall mats, horse stall beddings, horse stable designs, and many more.
Before buying stable mats for your horse in your barn, you should talk to your vet about it. You should also ask the manufacturer what their stalble mats are made of. You need to consider all the benefits of the various types of stable flooring.
Of course StableComfort is unique and truly the future of stable flooring and far superior to traditonal rubber flooring. But the best guide is do your research, list out all the advantages and disadvantages, look at customer feedback, testimonials and then make a decision.
Important features for your horse stalls include comfort, traction, and urine and odour control. Traditional rubber stall mats protect your horse’s feet from the cold and insulate the stall from the ground, and horses’ joints benefit from padding placed under their hooves. But traditional hard rubber mats need lots of padding/bedding (straw, saw dust, wood shavings etc.) to be able to stable your horse. Unlike StableComfort which is permanent rubber bedding which mimics natural turf so you can stable your horse 24 x 7 (whether they are stabled a lot or locked up due to injury or just older and/or performance horses who need relief on their joints – stabling them on StableComfort over night will relax their and help with their join recovery. So not only do you save on bedding it is good for your horse health and well being.
When it comes to horse stable design, one crucial thing to consider is a good floor, as it is an essential factor that improves a horse’s well-being. A good floor should have the right material that meets the needs of the horse and should possess the following characteristics:
- Gentle on the legs and feet
- Prevents pain and fatigue
- Dry and does not retain odours
- Features traction and non-slip characteristics
- Long-lasting but with easy upkeep
- Cost-effective
- Provides insulation to protect your horses feet from the cold coming up through the stable floor.
Another thing to consider regarding horse stable design is the size of the mat itself. If you don’t know, measure your horse stable. Most stable mats are measured wall to wall in meters i.e. 4m x 4m. Getting softness and a single piece of rubber going wall to wall in your stable is key particularly around ease of cleaning and urine and odor control. Having rubber tiles or cracks in the rubber flooring allows urine and dirt/food to get in between and cause problems. A single rubber top cover is key.
Yes – most rubber stable mats are waterproof if sealed correctly. Rubber tiles need to be glued down and sealed carefully to ensure water/urine cannot get in between or under the mats.
The beauty of StableComfort it is made of rubber and is a patented system comprising of rubber mattresses (equivalent to 10 to 15cm of bedding) and a single piece of rubber top cover (similar to a roll of carpet) that covers the mattresses and is sealed against the wall of the stable. So no water or urine can get under the flooring and no gaps….
It also doesnt need a concrete floor (though it can be) so it can be installed on crushed rock or hard dirt (but not sand) saving on having a concrete floor in your stables.
Overall, horse bedding is usually used for two main things: to give the horse a soft place to stand and to soak up urine. Different types of bedding have other qualities when it comes to making it stable and soft. Depending on your choice, you may need more or less bedding to create a comfortable bed.
Each kind of bedding has its benefits and drawbacks. Each type of bedding is different in cost, ability to decompose, level of dust, level of cushion, and ability to soak up any liquid. The surface your stables are built on will also affect how much bedding you need.
As a rule of thumb you will use 1/5 the bedding with StableComfort as it is permanent bedding. You only need enough sawdust to soak up any urine. The once a week you can pick up the used sawdust, wash out and start again… And daily it takes 2 to 3 minutes to pick up any poo.
This will save you as you will need to buy significantly less bedding and also disposing off each week plus the savings in time from mucking out the stables. StableComfort pays for itself in less than a year.
High-quality horse stable mats, especially rubber ones, are an investment and will last for years.
We have many customers who have had their StableComfort for more than 10 years with some still using 17 years later….
It is an investment that usually has a payback in less than a year (depending on how often you stable your horses) and will last for years and years….
This Canadian product has been around now for more than 20+ years with many customers around Australia and all over the world. The largest Equestrian Centre in the world which is in Kentucky, USA, has over 3000 stables with StableComfort stall mattresses system installed. A testimony to this product – truly the future of stable flooring compared to traditional rubber flooring.
