FAQs

Answers to common questions about StableComfort™ and its benefits.

What is StableComfort™?
icon

StableComfort™ is a Canadian product manufactured by Promat, the largest manufacturer of animal matting in the world. StableComfort™ is a patented stable mattress system comprising crumb rubber filled mattresses, overlaid with a single piece of top cover and secured to the stable wall. The premium product adds an additional level of comfort with a layer of engineered foam between the mattresses and top cover. The StableComfort™ system is the equivalent to 10-15cm of bedding, meaning a minimal amount of bedding is required – just enough to soak up any urine – which typically results in a 90% reduction in bedding costs. StableComfort™ is 100% waterproof, which means it’s easy to clean with no urine leakage and unhealthy ammonia smells. The significant reduction in bedding means not only a reduction in bedding costs, but an 85% reduction in mucking out time and waste removal.

How is StableComfort™ different to other products on the market?
icon

StableComfort™ is a patented system unlike any other product on the market. Made entirely from recycled tyres, the StableComfort™ system is made up of crumb-rubber filled mattresses, overlaid with a single top cover. An additional foam layer is added between the mattresses and top cover in the case of our Premium product. The top cover is anchored to the stable wall and sealed to ensure if it 100% waterproof. StableComfort™ does not need to be laid on a concrete floor – it can be laid directly onto crushed rock, dirt, clay as long as it can be compacted with water to make a hard, level surface StableComfort™ is loose laid ie not glued to the floor, but is attached to the walls with plastic strips and screws meaning it can be removed and taken to a new location if you move properties StableComfort™can be self-installed. StableComfort™is covered by a 3-year Manufacturers Warranty, although we have many clients using it 15+ years down the track and it’s still going strong.

What are the benefits of StableComfort™?
icon

There are numerous benefits of installing StableComfort™ for both you and your horse: Time – you will cut down set up and muck-out time of your stables by approximately 85%. This is due to the huge reduction in stable bedding required and the single, waterproof top cover which makes it easier to clean and sanitize. Money – bedding can be reduced by 90%, requiring only a small amount to absorb urine, noting that owners with walk-in/walk-out boxes often remove all bedding as horses will tend to wee outside rather than inside the box once the mattress system is installed. Environment – as a 100% recycled product that will support a significant reduction in the use and disposal of wood-based bedding products, StableComfort™ will not only provide significant tangible benefits for you and your horse, but is a sound environmental choice, directly benefiting the environment. Horse Health – your horse will recover faster from competition and/or travel fatigue, post op/rehabilitation or foaling down due to the relief on joints and pressure points through their ability to fully stretch out on the mattress system, providing a far greater quality of rest. The significant reduction in bedding required, will provide for greatly enhanced air quality thus reducing the risk of respiratory issues that can often be experienced in stabling horses.

How long will StableComfort™ last?
icon

StableComfort™ comes with a 3-year Manufacturers Warranty, however many StableComfort™ customers will attest they have had their StableComfort™ for 15+ years. Those customers who have had to replace their top cover after 15 years have found the mattresses underneath as good as the day they were installed.

What's the lead time for StableComfort™ delivery?
icon

We receive containers of StableComfort™ on a regular basis to ensure we always have stock on hand. This means we have stock for stables 4.0m wide x 12.0m+ long available. On receipt of your deposit, we will cut your topcover to your specific stable size and prepare your order for dispatch. For stables wider than 4.0m, a custom order would be required, which we would endeavour to get on our next container once payment has been received. This will generally translate to a 12-16 week lead time to delivery.

Where is StableComfort™ located?
icon

We are located in Tuerong, Victoria on the Mornington Peninsula. Your order can be collected from our warehouse by arrangement, or we can ship your order to you. Whilst we have a national courier we work with, we find local transport companies or backhaul options are often cheaper. We can provide freight dimensions, etc for you to source quotes as required.

Where can StableComfort™ be installed?
icon

Whilst StableComfort™ was originally developed for stable fitouts, the health benefits have meant people are increasingly installing into walk-in/walk-out boxes, paddock shelters and horse trucks. We have had a number of clients install StableComfort™ for their laminitic ponies and horses and others on vet recommendations for horses requiring box rest or those with respiratory issues. Horse truck installs have made a significant difference to travel fatigue on long distance journeys. The weight of the product means it is not recommended for horse floats. In addition to horses, we have installed StableComfort™ for goats, miniature cattle, kangaroos at Murrundindi Wildlife Rescue and even Hippopotamuses struggling with pressure sores at the Werribee Open Range Zoo.

Do I need a concrete floor to install StableComfort™?
icon

No, whilst StableComfort™ can be installed on concrete, it can also be installed on compacted crushed rock or a similar stable surface. Sand is not recommended due to its lack of stability. In the case of new builds, no need to concrete the stables, simply box them up and install the StableComfort™, resulting in significant cost savings.

Can I self-install StableComfort™?
icon

Yes, StableComfort™ is a self-install product and can be self-installed. You will need two reasonably fit people as each stable mattress weighs 60kg and the top cover weighs approximately 65kg, depending on the stable size. We have detailed written instructions and a self-install video available; and we are contactable should you need to ‘phone a friend’ with any questions in preparation for or during installation.

Are StableComfort™ installers available to install?
icon

Yes, the StableComfort™ installer network covers most areas of Australia, however we also find our customers will often have a handyman or builder they can use to do the install. Leveraging the detailed written instructions and a self-install video available and we are contactable should they need to ‘phone a friend’ with any questions in preparation for or during installation.

How does StableComfort™ compare in price to other products on the market?
icon

Whilst the initial investment in StableComfort™ is higher than your traditional rubber for example, the significant savings achieved post-installation very quickly add up. We have found that depending on how often you stable your horse, the typical payback period will range from 7-12 months. As a guide, a typical 4m x 4m stable will cost: $4,180 + gst for the StableComfort™ standard and $5,320 +gst for the StableComfort™ Premium These prices do not include delivery or installation.

Are there finance options available?
icon
